The American Studies Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada will be visiting the Faculty of Arts in collaboration with our English Studies Program bringing a Fulbright Senior Scholar Prof. Michael G. Vann (California State University, Sacramento) and Nuradi, M.A., who will respectively speak on the topic of “The King of the Cold War: Viewing American Imperialism through Elvis’ Film Personae” and “Quakers and Human Rights.” On the panel our Lestari Manggong and Ari J. Adipurwawidjana will also be delivering presentations on the rediscovery of America by Chinese-Americans based on a reading of Maxine Hong Kingston’s China Men and America as a British utopia in 19th-century global economy based on Victorian travel writing.
The event, to be held in the auditorium on the 3rd floor of Building D at the Faculty of Arts, will begin at 8 a.m.
